Korean legend has it that mugwort was tied to the creation of the first Korean dynasty. According to folk lore, a bear and a tiger wanted to become human, so the son of God tested them by putting them in a cave with some mugwort and garlic.
He told them to stay there for 100 days. However, the bear couldn't take it and fled the cave after only 21 days. The bear on the other hand stayed patient. As a reward, the bear was turned into a woman, who later gave birth to Dangun, the founder of Korea's first dynasty, Gojoseon.
